scripture

Acts 2:44-47

All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

Order your soul; reduce your wants; live in charity; associate in Christian community; obey the laws; trust in Providence.

thoughts

Look at the way that the early church lived. Should not we also live in a like manner? In our society dependency on others is seen as weakness while independence is seen as strength. We are taught our whole life to stand on our own two feet, and to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps. Help is seen as a hand out, that one could not do it on their own.

The Bible teaches and we see here in the above verse that interdependence is part of being a Christian. How do we reverse this independent state and pursue community? How do we foster interdependence in our lives? Community is a gift and we are missing out.
