Oops!  This morning I learned that some dW recipients are getting little boxes where their text characters should be.  If this has been happening to you, please go to http://the-daily-word.blogspot.com/ to catch up.  I will keep the message as a standard font style so as to avoid this issue in the future.

scripture

Luke 10:27

He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”

En Espanol, Lucas 10:27

scripture

Luke 14:26-33

“If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple. And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple. Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you, saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’ Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Won’t he first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand? If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace. In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples.”

En Espanol, Lucas 14:26-33

To endure the cross is not tragedy; it is the suffering which is the fruit of an exclusive allegiance to Jesus Christ.

scripture

Matthew 19:23-24

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”

En Espanol, Mateo 19:23-24

scripture

Matthew 6:14-15

For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

En Espanol, Mateo 6:14-15

quote

When a person forgives another, he is promising to do three things about the intended wrongdoing: not to use it against the wrongdoer in the future; not to talk about it to others; and not to dwell on it himself.

note

Jesus was “meek and mild” but He was not a wimp.  He was radical.  He had no problem, when it was within the Father’s will, to upset the apple cart.   He challenged the teachings of the religious elite.  Often Jesus would practice Torah intensification, which shattered the common understandings thereof to teach the true meaning of God’s Law.  This is a quick blurb to set us up for a series of dW emails that are going to focus on the tough sayings of Jesus.

A particular dW recipient will, at times, respond to a “hard hitting” dW with “<krunch> That was the sound of my toes getting smashed”.  When I shared the idea of doing this series he said, “We could call this the Smashed Toes Ministry”.  Ready or not, here they come!

scripture

Matthew 10:32-39

“Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven. Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn ‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law— a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’ Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.”

quote

Some people will say God is number 1, family is number 2, ministry is number 3.  No, no, no!  God is not to be a number on your list.  He is the list.  Either He comes in to take over and He doesn’t come in at all.
