dW 05.10.11

note

I had a wonderfully energizing conversation with a Christian brother last week about Christian theology and comparative religion studies.  During my time at the university, I learned the things I have outlined below, which until that conversation, I had it not organized as such.  I wish to share with you what God revealed to me over those three years.  For the remainder of the week, each day will focus on a point.  Today we start on point one.
Blessings, Kyle

Guidelines to sound theology:

1. The Bible is an authority in and of itself.  Biblical understanding is given by the Holy Spirit who illuminates our comprehension thereof.  The Bible is our standard and we must know it well so that we will not be deceived.
Read 2 Timothy 3:12-17.

2. All heresy originates from deviant teachings about the person and nature of Jesus Christ.
Read Galatians 1; 1 John 4.

3. Do not accept anything that is just a little off.  If you advert from your course by a few degrees, then measure to your intended destination after a couple hundred miles, you will find yourself way off course.  You must follow "truth" to its logical end to see if it does indeed lead to "Truth".
Read 2 Peter 2.

4. Anyone can use theological/church words to make what appears to be sound teaching.  However, if we do not require them to provide definitions to these words, then we are opening ourselves up for deception.
Read Romans 16:17-18; 1 Corinthians 15:1-7.

scripture

2 Timothy 3:12-17
In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evildoers and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

En Espanol, 2 Timoteo 3:12-17

quote

When the Word dwells as a familiar friend in the heart to direct, counsel and comfort us, then it is a sign it abides there. The devil knows good and hates it, therefore knowledge alone is nothing; but when the promise alters the temper of the heart itself, then it is engrafted there.
