Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

The Bible doesn’t say that we won’t have to go through the valleys. It does tell us that we will not be alone in them.

scripture

2 Corinthians 5:20-21

We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

lyrics

Lecrae, Send Me

The Great Commission says make disciples of all nations.
Have we even made them in our own nation? Come on Christians!
Missions exists because worship doesn't.
People don't worship the God who made them.
We're ambassadors. Let's go!

Send me I'll go, send me I'll go, send me I'll go,
Lemme go, Lemme go!

scripture

Matthew 6:5-13

Jesus speaking, "And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. This, then, is how you should pray: 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.'”

quote

How far away is heaven?  It is not so far as some imagine.  It wasn’t very far from Daniel.  It was not so far off that Elijah’s prayer, and those of others could not be heard there.  Christ said when ye pray say, “Our Father, who art in heaven.”  Men full of the Spirit can look right into heaven.

D. L. Moody

thought

How would our prayers change if we really understood how near heaven is and how God leans His ear to hear our prayers?

Matthew 11:28-30

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

We are in grave danger when the Gospel no longer moves our hearts, compels us to tell others, and alters who we are and who we are becoming.

scripture

Ecclesiastes 2:10-11

Whatever my eyes desired I did not keep from them. I did not withhold my heart from any pleasure, For my heart rejoiced in all my labor; And this was my reward from all my labor. Then I looked on all the works that my hands had done And on the labor in which I had toiled; And indeed all was vanity and grasping for the wind. There was no profit under the sun.

quote

“Blessed are the poor in spirit” means:  “Blessed is the man who has realized his own utter helplessness, and who has put his whole trust in God.”  If a man has realized his own utter helplessness, and has put his whole trust in God, there will enter into his life two things which are opposite sides of the same thing.  He will become completely detached from things, for he will know that things have not got it in them to bring happiness or security; and he will become completely attached to God, for he will know that God alone can bring him help, and hope, and strength.  The man who is poor in spirit is the man who has realized that things mean nothing, and that God means everything.

William Barclay

DC Talk

“Like It, Love It, Need It“

Under these circumstances, they can hardly cope
Notice their fleeting glances and their lack of hope
I offer this suggestion, they don’t seem to care-o
This is my generation, drowning in despair-o

You’ll never find peace of mind in your pool of self
You’ll never find peace of mind in a sea of wealth
You’ll never find peace of mind in your rock and roll
You’ll never find peace of mind if you sell your soul
You’ll never find peace of mind in your lucky charm
You’ll never find peace of mind on a hippie farm
You’ll never find peace of mind in a one-night stand
You’ll never find peace of mind in your superman

You gotta like it, you gotta love it
I know you need some freedom from the strife
You gotta like it, you gotta love it
I know you need some Jesus in your life
[some Jesus in your life, some Jesus in your life]

Like it, love it, need it, don’t leave it
Like it [don’t you like it? ]
Love it, need it [don’t you need it? ]
Don’t leave it

You gotta like it, you gotta love it
I know you need it
You gotta like it, you gotta love it
I know you, God knows you need it

You gotta like it, you gotta love it
I know you need it
Some Jesus in your life
Jesus in your life

scripture

Ephesians 5:8-14

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. For it is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. But everything exposed by the light becomes visible, for it is light that makes everything visible. This is why it is said: "Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you."

dW Stickers

Today I met Jimmy

I went to the gas station this morning. As I was washing my windshield a man came around the pump and walked past the back of my truck. He said, God bless you. I thought I had heard right but asked again and then introduced myself. He said that he had noticed my stickers and asked if I was a Christian. My stickers range from America needs Jesus, Love more – Want less, In God We Trust, and Not of This World. From there the conversation started. We stood talking across my truck bed for maybe 15-20 minutes. During that time he shared a bit about himself and how he’d been talking to God as he was driving to the gas station. He has got a lot going on in his life right now and is trying to do the right thing. We encouraged each other and he wants to visit my church this coming Sunday. What a simple thing for God to use to encourage a struggling brother. Stickers.

Aren’t we all just beggars telling other beggars where to find bread?

John 6:32-35

Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world." "Sir," they said, "from now on give us this bread." Then Jesus declared, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.”
