scripture
2 Corinthians 13:5
Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test?
1 John 1:6
If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth.
quote
My dear friend, listen to me. John is saying that if you say you are a Christian and yet your style of life, the way you are, does not reflect His character and the things you do go against His will as a style of life then he is telling you that you are a liar when you say that you are a Christian.

scripture
John 6:44
Jesus said, “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day.”
John 14:6
Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
Matthew 7:13-14
Jesus explains, "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”
thought
All religions are not the same. If they were then why did Christ himself say the things above? This country speaks of religious freedom. The freedom to believe as you wish but when it comes to Christianity, and a Christian says the very things that Christ taught then we become extremists, or bigots. This country does not emphasize freedom, nor tolerance but full fledge acceptance. If we can look at someone and say that it does not matter who or what they worship or how they live then we do not follow Christ. We are just like Peter who denied he even knew Jesus. May God rise up bigots who do not fear man but fear God!
quote
Why in God’s name do you expect to be accepted everywhere? If the world could not get along with the holiest man alive (Jesus Christ) then how does it get along with you and I? Are we compromised? Do we have no spiritual stature? -taken from the “Revival Hymn”

scripture

Luke 18:9-14

To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everybody else, Jesus told this parable: "Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself: 'God, I thank you that I am not like other men—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.' "But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, 'God, have mercy on me, a sinner.' "I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."

quote

Prayer is the language of the poor. The self sufficient does not need to pray. The self satisfied don’t want to pray. The self righteous can’t pray. The only ones of us that can pray are those that realize that we need a power outside of ourselves. – Leonard Ravenhill

scripture

Romans 6:5-7

If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection. For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin— because anyone who has died has been freed from in.

quotes

No man knows how bad he is till he has tried very hard to be good.  There is a silly idea that good people don't know what temptation means. – C.S. Lewis

scripture

Romans 12:1 & 2

Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

quote

There were no bible schools in the New Testament. The only reason why we have bible schools is because we have bankrupt preaching. That’s why. Mister Spurgeon said 100 years ago that the bible suffers more from its exponents than it opponents. A witty American said not long ago, “Sure the bible is infallible. Otherwise how do you think it has survived so much bad preaching?” Oh brothers let’s get back and preach the book. Preach what God says about it, about sin, about redemption, about the Holy Ghost, about His coming, about war and tribulation. Why, this is the most exciting book in the whole world! – Leonard Ravenhill

REPENTANCE

scripture

1 Chronicles 21:8
And David said to God, I have sinned greatly because I have done this thing. But now, I beseech You, take away the hateful wickedness of Your servant; for I have done very foolishly.

quote

Sin should not be seen as something hurting people but as something hurting God. People who were screaming a few years ago, “It is wrong to go to war in Vietnam. It is wrong to go to war.” “Why?” “Because you are killing people.” And now they kill babies before they get out of the womb. You think God Almighty is going to put up with America much longer? I don’t. – Leonard Ravenhill

song lyrics

Happy Birthday...so make a wish

Verse 1:

Please accept my apologies, wonder what would have been

Would you've been a little angel or an angel of sin?

Tom-boy running around, hanging with all the guys.

Or a little tough boy with beautiful brown eyes?

I paid for the murder before they determined the sex

Choosing our life over your life meant your death

And you never got'a chance to even open your eyes

Sometimes I wonder as a fetus if you fought for your life?

Would you have been a little genius in love with math?

Would you have played in your school clothes and made me mad?

Would you have been a little rapper like your papa da Piper?

Would you have made me quit smokin' by finding one of my lighters?

I wonder about your skintone and shape of your nose?

And the way you would have laughed and talked fast or slow?

Think about it every year, so I picked up a pen

Happy birthday, love you whoever you woulda been

Happy birthday...

Yesterday I listened to three sermons by Leonard Ravenhill. If this man's preaching doesn't light a fire inside of you then your wood must be wet! I am going to be using quotes by him for awhile so ya'll better brace yourselves.

Scripture
Mark 8:38
Jesus said, "If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his Father's glory with the holy angels"

Quote
The greatest miracle that Deity can do is to take an unholy man out of an unholy world, to make that unholy man holy, and then put him back in an unholy world and keep him holy. Amen! That is the redemptive work of God in Christ. - Leonard Ravenhill

scripture

Psalm 118:7

The LORD is with me; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? The LORD is with me; he is my helper. I will look in triumph on my enemies.

Deuteronomy 31:6

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.

quote

Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.
T S Eliot

overseas experience

In the Middle East there are great distances between cities, towns, and villages on long, windy dirt roads. If you remember the story about the Samaritan, you’ll remember that these roads are not safe due to thieves that would hide in the clefts of the rock. The same is true to this day. For safety the military has set up check points where you check in and they telephone ahead so that if you don’t make it within a certain amount of time then they’ll come looking for you. Being that we were Americans they decided that we needed “extra protection”. In our case, their presence was as much about safety as it was spying on our doings. The truck that followed us between check points had two officers in the cab, one solder standing in the bed manning a .50 caliber, and then three men on each side of the bed were sitting on wooden benches. Each of these nine men carried their knives and machine guns while chewing their drugs and watching out for our well-being.

You are not supposed to take pictures of their military. I did anyway. We were driving between check points on a narrow, badly paved mountain road. I got my camera out and slide it up against the dashboard just above the glove box pointing out the windshield to get my pictures of our camo clad friends. I turned the flash option off and got ready. Just before I snapped the picture I realize what was going on. 1) there were three or four vehicles traveling together 2) we are all coming up on a blind turn that is bending to the left 3) the head vehicle is a leaking oil tanker and 4) the military truck has moved to the left in order to pass them. It is a great picture! There’s never a dull, calm moment in overseas mission work. J

scripture

1 Samuel 24:12
May the Lord judge between me and you, and may the Lord avenge me upon you, but my hand shall not be upon you.

Luke 6:36-37, 41-42

Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven… Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,' when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.

story

I was driving to work this morning listening to a radio show and the topic was that of Vincent Brothers. This has been a huge case in Kern County. July 6, 2003 was when the murders took place, he wasn’t arrested until April 2004, and he was just convicted of the murders of May 15, 2007. Now this week the sentencing is taking place and it looks like he is eligible for the death penalty. Anyway, back to the radio show. The topic was “If you were left alone with Vincent Brothers in a locked room, what would you do to damage him emotionally and physically to the point that he suffers sufficiently for his crimes?”

thought

Revenge is thought to be sweet waters necessary to recover from wounds inflicted. However, once it is drunk one realizes that it was more like vinegar which parches the throat and does not satisfy.
