scripture

John 15:9-17

"As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father's commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit—fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. This is my command: Love each other.”

En Espanol, Juan 15:9-17

scripture

Romans 4:13-15

It was not through law that Abraham and his offspring received the promise that he would be heir of the world, but through the righteousness that comes by faith. For if those who live by law are heirs, faith has no value and the promise is worthless, because law brings wrath. And where there is no law there is no transgression.

response

My wife asked me yesterday why I paired the scripture and quote that I did. She thought it would be a good idea to share with you what I shared with her.

“That pairing came from a scripture email that I received today. I only have my work email site accessible so I couldn't do anything else. However... there is an interesting connection. The disciples thought Jesus was going to be their earthly messiah king. Yet He was crucified. That would be a big problem for their messiah king to be killed. Lots of people had their own notions of what Jesus was on earth to do but God's purpose for Him was supreme. The same is true for today. Some people think that God did not intend for Jesus to be crucified. So God had to raise Him from the dead to bypass the attempt that people and the Devil made to remove Jesus. This, however, cannot be true since God is sovereign. Nothing catches God off guard. God never says, "I didn't see that coming. That is going to be a problem." He is sovereign and His plans will not be foiled. Amen! I feel like preaching!!!!!”

scripture

Luke 23:13-21
Pilate called together the chief priests, the rulers and the people, and said to them, “You brought me this man as one who was inciting the people to rebellion.  I have examined him in your presence and have found no basis for your charges against him.  Neither has Herod, for he sent him back to us; as you can see, he has done nothing to deserve death.  Therefore, I will punish him and then release him.”  With one voice they cried out, “Away with this man!  Release Barabbas to us!”  (Barabbas had been thrown into prison for an insurrection in the city, and for murder.)  Wanting to release Jesus, Pilate appealed to them again.  But they kept shouting, “Crucify him!  Crucify him!”

Isaiah 53:12

Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, and he will divide the spoils with the strong, because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

Psalm 71:1-3

In you, O LORD, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame.

Rescue me and deliver me in your righteousness; turn your ear to me and save me.

Be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go; give the command to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress.

scripture

Mark 10:13-16

People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it." And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them.

scripture

1 Corinthians 2:10-14

But God has revealed it to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man's spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us. This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words. The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.

En Espanol, 1 Corintios 2:10-14

quote

The attributes of God, though intelligible to us on their surface yet, for the very reason that they are infinite, transcend our comprehension, when they are dwelt upon, when they are followed out, and can only be received by faith.

scripture

Galatians 6:9-10

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

En Espanol, Gálatas 6:9-10

story

The author wishes to remain anonymous.

I want to share this little story to encourage others to look for opportunities to show love in the normal, everyday events of life. Today I chose to gas up at a station which I don’t usually gas up at. I was about to leave when I heard a car trying to start. I saw the car and walked over. I asked the man, maybe mid-twenties, if he needed a jump. He said that he was out of gas but that his father was on his way. He mentioned that he had just called his work to let them know he would be late. I was moved to help him so I offered to get him enough gas to get to work. He was very surprised and readily accepted the offer. We pushed the car to the pump and had some small talk. He said that he was surprised that anyone would help like I chose to help. I said that I often look for ways to help people and that today was his day. It felt good to show some love to a total stranger. I think that God used me to help this man. The only thing I would have done differently was to include in explaining why I helped, was because God has blessed me in order that I bless others. It is good to do good but I think it is better to let people know why we choose to do good.
