Happiness is based on circumstance.  Joy is much deeper than happiness, because it exists through dependence on God.  What specifically brings us joy?  1) Our union and communion with Jesus brings us joy, 2) our complete dependence upon Jesus brings us joy, 3) feeding on God's Word brings us joy, and 4) obedience to Christ brings us joy.

A pastor once said, “We should not be surprised when the world acts like the world.  How can they act any other way?”  While this is true, I still find it hard to stomach sometimes.  It hurts to be treated in unloving ways.  However, may we not fuel unloving actions with more unloving actions in return.  May we learn to see the world as broken and in need of healing and restoration.  May we find ourselves on our knees in prayer for an adversary more often than we find ourselves toe to toe with an adversary.  The ideologies of the world are not the ideologies of Christ.  Be not as the world is but be as Christ.  May God give us the strength to pursue such a high calling.

In rural  Africa there are three tribes that have cultures rich in tradition. However, these tribe lives in fear of evil spirits who they believe bring ill fortune to their villages. They use the word "Mingi" to describe persons they consider cursed or otherwise imperfect. Loosely translated, “Mingi” means dirty or unclean. Those deemed Mingi face severe consequences, as they believe the presence of these children on their land curses the tribe.
