scripture
Proverbs 17:17
A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

thought
I always thought that this verse meant brothers were born to make you tough. My pastor used this verse and commented that a friend is there only when things are good. But a brother will be there when things are bad.

application
Ask yourself, am I a friend or a brother to those around me? Will I offer help when it is within my power but not really convenient? Do I stop and talk to someone that’s hurting to offer encouragement even if it means that I am five minutes late to where I am headed? Or am I the friend that is there only when it is suits me?

quote/scripture

O God, I beg two favors before I die. First, help me never to tell a lie. Second, give me neither poverty or riches! Give me just enough to satisfy my needs. For if I grow rich, I may deny you and say, “Who is the LORD?” And if I am poor, I may steal and thus insult God’s holy name. (Proverbs 30:7-9) -Agur

thought

What would happen of more of us would risk:

·         contentment over consumption?

·         satisfaction over searching for more?

·         more gratitude over meaningless gratification?

·         resting in what we have over restlessness in what we lack?

·         connecting with the Joneses instead of competing with them?

·         giving more money to God’s work over getting a new toy?

·         careers for a cause?

·         having less on earth for more in heaven?

scripture
Proverbs 8:17
Wisdom, says “I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me.”
Where is wisdom found?
James 1:5
If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.

quote
The history of all the great characters of the Bible is summed up in this one sentence: They acquainted themselves with God, and acquiesced (obeyed) His will in all things.
